1st International Dinner: Afghanistan

2nd February 2009, Kabul Restaurant, 19:45

Restaurant Website and independent review

"The Afghan food is based in majority on rice and other cereals. Afghanistan is also very well-known for its grapes. The cooking is of a Hindu type and some plates are very spicy. The food is eaten with your fingers, using the bread like a spoon. Silverware is normally not used.

The most typical plate is pulao, which consists of rice boiled with raisins and carrots normally served with a portion of meat, vegetables or beans. A variation of this plate is gabli pulao, which is served with lamb. The soups also are very popular (shorma), as well as kebabs.

The most common national drink is tea (chai)."
