Looking for Adventure near Kladno
Kladno's surroundings

15th November 2008

9:30, rendez-vous at Dejvicka metro station. Nobody is there. We wait a few minutes, to see Asia, Ruben,Jakub, Barbara and Olexey joining us. Cameron and his couchserfer, Kate, are late and will join us later in the morning. We take the bus, headed to Lidice Memorial. We were hesitant about visiting this place, but as we will have to kill some time until Cameron and Kate may be able to join us, we chose to take a look at the grounds of this village, wiped out by the German occupiers during the Second World War.

The place is more interesting than I had foreseen. There are a few "ruins" and informative panels, revealing the most significant places of the former village. A few individual memorials are spreaded along the area and there are two cemiteries on the location. We take too long wandering around and suddenly we have to rush to meet the remaining elements at the nearby village of Bustehrad. Here, the opposite happens: considering what I saw in the official webiste I was expecting a little more juice from the place. Well... it still have its charm, beeing a very "local" village, but not enough to catch our attention. We just walk by and leave by the northwest end.

Before we enter the woods, we visit a mistical old church and its cemitery. In its grounds a few isolated tombs from the 19th century are spreaded. Then, we start walking in the forest. Not for lonk as we reach an abandoned industrial area. Interesting. Now we are teased: we really want to enter the abandoned foundry. We approach the complex just to found a brand new fence denying us entrance. Disapointing, but not enough to ruin the day. We already had fun and there is more to come.

After walking along the fence for a while, we notice that most probably parts of the factory are beeing leased to assorted companies for diferent purposes. There are cars passing by and sounds of labour all around. So we finally quit and we return to the woods, just in time to find a church lost on the heart of this small forest. It's the last stage of the journey. Soon we will be entering in the town of Kladno and we have a pre-dinner there, after some struggle to find an open restaurant.

After the beer and the food, we proceed to the bus terminal, just in time to catch the bus back to Dejvicka. From there, to Olexey's place. Before reaching his house, we stop in TESCO for groceries. Apparently me and Laura are destined to lead the cook procedures, preparing ourselves to serve a meal of vegetables, while Ruben will cook his famous rice. The dessert is also of our responsability.

Well... and so we cooked, we ate and had fun. Unfortunatelly, like a bunch of Cinderella's, we had to leave before midnight, in order to get the last bus. To Andel we traveled, and from there to Narodni. When we steped out of the tram, it was only me, Laura, Cameron and Kate... but we couldn't imagine that that night was still a baby. Unexpectedly we decided to go to Wagon. And there we spend four hours. While we were there, familiar faces kept showing up: Mario, Maria Repa, Rui Fernandes and some travelling couchsurfers. town of Dan Robinson is a hero.
